WASHINGTON — April production of edible nonfat dry milk was 192,364,000 lbs, up 2% from March and up 31% from April 2011, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said in its latest Dairy Products report.
Manufacturers’ stocks of edible nonfat dry milk were 227,360,000 lbs, up 8% from March and up 54% from April 2011. April nonfat dry milk shipments were 166,344,000 lbs, down slightly from 166,530,000 lbs in March but up 49% from 111,862,000 lbs in April 2011.
Output of skim milk powders was 17,451,000 lbs, up 47% from March but down 35% from April 2011.
Total dry whey production was 85,990,000 lbs, down 3% from March and down 7% from April 2011. Production of lactose was 87,240,000 lbs, down 3% from March but up 8% from April 2011. Whey protein concentrate production totaled 37,052,000 lbs, down 5% from March but up 7% from April 2011.
Dry buttermilk outturn was 9,468,000 lbs, down 12% from March but up 19% from April 2011.
Total manufacturers’ stocks of dry whey on April 30, 2012, were 49,729,000 lbs, down 5% from March and down 12% from April 2011. Total lactose stocks were 78,981,000 lbs, up 7% from March and up 3% from April 2011. Whey protein concentrate stocks totaled 45,108,000 lbs, down 4% from March but up 41% from April 2011. Dry buttermilk stocks totaled 23,347,000 lbs, up 7% from March and up 38% from April 2011.
Butter production in April 2012 was 170,171,000 lbs, down 3% from March but up 7% from April 2011.
Total cheese production was 902,564,000 lbs, down 5% from March but up 2% from April 2011.
Production of regular hard ice cream totaled 69,487,000 lbs, down 4% from March and down 3% from April 2011. Low-fat ice cream production was 41,144,000 lbs, up 4% from March and up 3% from April 2011.
