DOWNERS GROVE, ILL. — Hearthside Food Solutions has doubled production capacity of a nutritional bar formulation and production facility in Boise, Idaho. Acquired by Hearthside in 2015, the 185,000-square-foot location previously was a Nestle/PowerBar production facility. The plant was described by Hearthside as “one of several strategic acquisitions that have expanded Hearthside’s nutritional bar presence.” The company cited industry data indicating the overall nutritional bar market as growing at 11% annually with $1.8 billion in sales each year.

Hearthside also announced the opening of a fourth nutritional bar production facility in Europe. The plant is located in Leerdam, The Netherlands, and raises the company’s overall production capacity in Europe by more than 40%.

Hearthside said both the Boise and Leerdam projects were completed ahead of schedule and were prompted by the strong market growth.

“These capacity increases enable us to meet our customers’ ever-increasing nutritional bar volume and formulation needs,” said Richard G. Scalise, chairman and chief executive officer at Hearthside.

Mr. Scalise said the company has more than 53 food scientists and commercialization and innovation specialists in the company’s research and development and innovation group.
