THOMASVILLE, GA. — Flowers Foods, Inc. on July 18 issued a voluntary recall on Swiss Rolls sold under the brand names Mrs. Freshley’s, Food Lion, H-E-B, Baker’s Treat, Market Square and Great Value, as well as Captain John Derst’s Old Fashioned Bread, due to the potential presence of Salmonella. The Swiss Rolls were distributed nationwide, while the recalled bread was distributed in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina.
Flowers said the ingredient recall was initiated by a third-party whey powder manufacturer and supplier. No illnesses have been reported in connection with the recalled products, the company said.
“Consumers should not consume these products,” Flowers said. “Affected product should be discarded or may be returned to the place of purchase for a full refund.”
The recall is the second such incident to affect a major grain-based foods company in the past month. In mid-June, Kellogg Co., Battle Creek, Mich., voluntarily recalled Honey Smacks after Salmonella was linked to the ready-to-eat cereal.
