WASHINGTON — The average price paid for white pan bread increased 1.4c per lb in July, according to the latest data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics of the U.S. Department of Labor. Meanwhile, the price of whole wheat bread also increased, rising 0.3c per lb in the month.
The national average retail price of white pan bread was 129.3c, up 1.4c per lb from June but down 3.4c from July 2017. On a month-to-month basis, the average price for white pan bread in July increased in two regions — up 6.9c in the Northeast and up 2.1c in the South — and fell in two regions — down 2.8c in the West and down 2.1c in the Midwest.
At 189.9c per lb, the national average price for whole wheat bread was up 0.3c per lb from June but down 6.8c per lb from July 2017.
The national average price of family flour in July was 46.8c per lb, down 0.1c per lb from June and down 4.4c from July 2017.
The national average price for spaghetti and macaroni in July was 120.4c per lb, up 0.3c from June but down 9c from July 2017. Chocolate chip cookies were 348.1c per lb, down 0.9c from June but up 1.4c from July 2017. The national average price of white long-grain rice was 69c per lb, up 0.1c from June but down 7.4c from July 2017.
