WASHINGTON — The average price paid for white pan bread decreased 1.4c per lb in September, according to the latest data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics of the U.S. Department of Labor. Meanwhile, the price of whole wheat bread increased, rising 1.5c per lb in the month.
The national average retail price of white pan bread was 128.8c, down 1.4c per lb from August and down 6.1c from September 2017. On a month-to-month basis, the average price for white pan bread in September increased in two regions — up 1c in the South and up 0.1c in the Northeast — and fell in two regions — down 7.5c in the West and down 2.8c in the Midwest.
At 195.1c per lb, the national average price for whole wheat bread was up 1.5c per lb from August but down 3.5c per lb from September 2017.
The national average price of family flour in September was 46.7c per lb, up 0.3c per lb from August but down 3.8c from September 2017.
The national average price for spaghetti and macaroni in September was 120c per lb, down 2.7c from August and down 9.9c from September 2017. Chocolate chip cookies were 345.1c per lb, up 10c from August but down 4.3c from September 2017. The national average price of white long-grain rice was 69.3c per lb, down 1.2c from August and down 4.8c from September 2017.
