MADISON, WIS. — Bimbo Bakeries USA has announced plans to close its baking plant in Madison by Jan. 2, 2019. The facility makes bread and buns sold under the Sara Lee brand.
“Making the decision to close a facility is never an easy one,” said David Tormena, vice-president of region operations for B.B.U. “After careful analysis and consideration, we determined moving production to other bakeries in our system is a more efficient and cost-effective option.”
B.B.U. employs nearly 160 people at the facility.
“We truly value and respect our dedicated associates at the Madison bakery and will assist them throughout the transition,” Mr. Tormena said.
B.B.U. acquired the Madison plant in 2011 as part of its acquisition of the North American Fresh Bakery business of Sara Lee Corp. The facility was founded in 1926 as Gardner Bakery.
