WASHINGTON — Daniel Servitje, chief executive officer of Grupo Bimbo S.A.B. de C.V., was recognized by the Inter-American Dialogue with the Leadership for the Americas Award for Corporate Social Responsibility. The award was presented Oct. 29 at a gala dinner at the Mandarin Oriental hotel in Washington.
The Leadership for the Americas Award is given to individuals who have dedicated life-long service to the Dialogue’s mission — advancing democratic governance, social equity and prosperity. The Inter-American Dialogue is a non-profit organization that engages world leaders to promote democratic governance, prosperity and social equity in Latin America and the Caribbean.
Mr. Servitje was recognized for his innovative efforts toward sustainable growth and the reduction of the environmental footprint of Grupo Bimbo. Earlier this year Grupo Bimbo announced its commitment to use 100% renewable electric power by 2025.
“Daniel Servitje’s effective leadership at the helm of Grupo Bimbo is an inspiration for companies all around the world,” said Carlos Gutierrez, former U.S. Secretary of Commerce and chair of Albright Stonebridge Group. “Grupo Bimbo’s successful global expansion demonstrates that it is possible for companies to grow while keeping faithful to their corporate values.”
In accepting the award, Mr. Servitje said, “I receive this recognition on behalf of the 140,000 women and men who are part of Grupo Bimbo globally and who share the mission of 'feeding a better world.'”
He added that “at present, four areas of social responsibility have become essential for companies: it is necessary to take more care of the people who work in the company and also the communities; leaders must be committed to innovation in order to face new challenges; caring for the environment must be at the essence of corporate social responsibility; and integrity cannot be understood only as compliance with the law; it must go further and be part of the culture of any organization.”
