GRAZ, AUSTRIA — Koenig Group, a manufacturer of commercial bread and roll equipment, has added bakery equipment manufacturer Fortuna to its roster. The acquisition comes after Fortuna filed for bankruptcy in October 2018. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Established in 1887 and based in Bad Staffelstein, Germany, Fortuna produces bread, bun and roll lines, dividers and rounders and more for artisan and commercial bakeries.

With the new addition, Koenig said it will be better equipped to serve its international customers and complete existing and new orders. Fortuna will continue to operate independently of Koenig. Fortuna’s assets, trademarks, patents and 90 employees will all remain secure under the acquisition. 

“The know-how at Fortuna is enormous and we want to preserve and expand this unique wealth of experience for the market,” said Wolfgang Staufer, chief executive officer of Koenig. “The acquisition also enables us to expand our product portfolio for artisan businesses.”
