LONDON — A. Salman Amin has been named global chief executive officer of Pladis, a biscuit, chocolate and confectionery company owned by Yildiz Holding.
Mr. Amin joins the company from S.C. Johnson & Son, where most recently he was chief operating officer of the global commercial division.
Previously, Mr. Amin was chief marketing officer at PepsiCo, Inc., where he held various leadership roles during his 17 years with the company. He is credited with expanding PepsiCo’s snacks portfolio globally and leading the company’s move to front-of-pack labeling in the United Kingdom. His career also includes 10 years at Procter & Gamble in various international markets, including Germany, Saudi Arabia and Switzerland.
Mr. Amin has a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Syracuse University and a master’s degree in business administration from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. He received an honorary doctorate award from De Montfort University in Leicester, England.
“Pladis is just over two years old, and already we’re fast becoming a global snacking leader,” said Murat Ulker, chairman of Yildiz Holding. “With Salman’s proven track record in driving transformation and growth among global (fast-moving consumer goods) players, we’re delighted to welcome him to lead our ambitious and entrepreneurial team.”
Formed in 2016, Pladis had annual gross revenues in 2017 of £3.5 billion ($4.52 billion). Brands include McVitie’s and Ulker. The company also distributes a range of Godiva chocolates in retail channels worldwide. Pladis employs more than 17,000 people and operates 34 factories in 13 countries.
Mr. Amin succeeds Cem Karakaş, who stepped down in September due to family health reasons. Jim Zaza, senior board member of Pladis and chairman of United Biscuits U.K., served as interim c.e.o.
“I’ve built a career on seeking out opportunities to rewrite the rules, diversify and be part of consumer evolution,” Mr. Amin said. “At Pladis we have the opportunity to make our local favorites global stars and share the heritage of our biscuits and confectionery with the world. I’m looking forward to joining my new colleagues as we embark on this journey together.”
