SAN ANTONIO — C.H. Guenther & Son L.L.C. has acquired Bönen, Germany-based Wback GmbH, a baker of soft rolls in Europe. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
Founded in 2003, Wback supplies quick-service restaurant chains and food retailers with hamburger and hot dog buns. The company operates two manufacturing facilities in Bönen and Leipheim, Germany, that bake more than two million bread rolls and other products every day.
C.H. Guenther said it plans to continue to produce the Wback brand at the existing facilities in Germany.
“Matthias (Geißler) and the entire Wback team have done a tremendous job growing Wback into a market-leading bun producer,” said Dale Tremblay, chief executive officer of C.H. Guenther. “They have remained focused on the customer with a commitment to product quality. We look forward to continuing to invest in the European market and providing value for customers.”
Mr. Geißler said C.H. Guenther’s broad capability set and global manufacturing expertise should allow Wback to expand its geographic distribution.
Headquartered in San Antonio, C.H. Guenther employs more than 3,500 people in 22 manufacturing locations in the United States, Canada and Western Europe. The company supplies value-added grain-based and frozen food products to food service clients and select consumer markets. The company’s brands include Pioneer, White Wings, Sun-Bird and Cuisine Adventures.
