CHICAGO — A fire destroyed a factory in Chicago owned by Newly Weds Foods on April 2, according to a report in the Chicago Sun-Times. The building in the 4100 block of West Wrightwood Avenue was deemed a total loss, and the fire was upgraded to a hazardous materials scene on April 2 as a precaution for the yeast and risers inside the building, according to the report, but all employees evacuated in time.
Newly Weds Foods, a food ingredients supplier, addressed the fire in a Facebook post at 11:28 p.m. Central Daylight Time on April 2: “Thank you to the Chicago Fire Department for all their hard work at 2501 N. Keeler today. We appreciate the tremendous effort on our behalf. We will share more when we have had an opportunity to evaluate everything in the light of day. #NWFoods #chicagofd #thankyou.”
Attempts to contact Newly Weds Foods for more information were not successful. The company has 26 manufacturing facilities globally, which includes 16 in North America. The company produces food coatings, seasonings and functional ingredients for the food processing and food service industries.
