Under new guidance from the Food and Drug Administration, Tate & Lyle’s Dolcia Prima allulose will not count toward total sugars or added sugars on the revised Nutrition Facts Label. The F.D.A. gave allulose a caloric value of 0.4 calories per gram and said the value would not underestimate the caloric contribution. Sucrose is 4 calories per gram. This decision comes after the F.D.A. received a petition from Tate & Lyle requesting allulose be exempt as a carbohydrate, sugar or added sugar.
