WASHINGTON — The average price paid for white pan bread fell 0.9c per lb in June, while the price for whole wheat bread fell 3.6c per lb, according to the latest data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics of the U.S. Department of Labor.
The national average retail price of white pan bread was 128c, down 0.9c per lb from May but up 0.1c from June 2018. On a month-to-month basis, the average price for white pan bread in June increased in two regions — up 3.7c in the Midwest and up 2.8c in the Northeast — and declined in two regions — down 5.1c in the South and down 2.9c in the West.
At 190.5c per lb, the national average price for whole wheat bread was down 3.6c per lb from May and down 0.9c per lb from June 2018.
The national average price of family flour in June was 44.8c per lb, down 0.6c from May and down 2.1c from June 2018.
The national average price for spaghetti and macaroni in June was 119.2c per lb, down 0.5c from May and down 0.9c from June 2018. Chocolate chip cookies were 350.4c per lb, up 15.2c from May and up 1.4c from June 2018. The national average price of white long-grain rice was 80.1c per lb, up 4c from May and up 11.2c from June 2018.
