INDIANAPOLIS — Nestle USA on Sept. 2 filed a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) notice with the Department of Workforce Development/Workforce Transition in Indianapolis, informing the state it will close its frozen specialty food manufacturing facility at 1301 South Keystone Ave. beginning Nov. 1. The closing will impact 172 employees.

“Employees in the Nestle retail sales workforce and Nestle deep frozen supply chain are impacted by this restructure,” Nestle noted in the filing. “The entire facility will be closed, and all employees at the facility will be impacted. This closure is expected to be permanent. The first separation is expected to occur on Nov. 1, 2019, and separations may continue through Dec. 31, 2019.”

The WARN notice comes about four months after Nestle announced plans to exit its company-owned frozen direct-store delivery network for pizza and ice cream and transition to the warehouse model it uses for its frozen meals and snacks businesses. At that time, Nestle said the move would result in the closing of eight company-owned frozen distribution centers and frozen inventory transfer points.
