WASHINGTON — The average price paid for white pan bread fell 0.6c per lb in August, while the price for whole wheat bread decreased 1.1c per lb, according to the latest data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics of the U.S. Department of Labor.
The national average retail price of white pan bread was 127.5c, down 0.6c per lb from July and down 2.7c from August 2018. On a month-to-month basis, the average price for white pan bread in August increased in two regions — up 3.2c in the West and up 0.6c in the Northeast — and declined in two regions — down 3.6c in the Midwest and down 0.5c in the South.
At 194c per lb, the national average price for whole wheat bread was down 1.1c per lb from July but up 0.4c per lb from August 2018.
The national average price of family flour in August was 45c per lb, down 0.4c from July and down 1.4c from August 2018.
The national average price for spaghetti and macaroni in August was 121.5c per lb, up 1.7c from July but down 1.2c from August 2018. Chocolate chip cookies were 349.6c per lb, up 2.8c from July and up 14.5c from August 2018. The national average price of white long-grain rice was 79.3c per lb, down 0.5c from July but up 8.8c from August 2018.
