PORTLAND, ORE. – Bob’s Red Mill expects to open a distribution center in January. The company has secured a 125,000-square-foot plant in Clackamas County in Oregon that is 2 miles from the headquarters of Bob’s Red Mill in Milwaukie, Ore.
Bob’s Red Mill has options for additional adjoining space at the new plant and will move all storage and distribution to the new building. The distribution center will have more than 30 loading docks, a railway connection and close proximity to an interstate. A need for additional raw commodity storage space and anticipated production growth over the next five years drove the move.
The move will free space at the company’s headquarters and allow Bob’s Red Mill to expand production of whole grain and gluten-free foods. The move will add 70,000 square feet of production and packaging space at the headquarters. The company’s gluten-free flours, cereals, baking mixes and grains are made in a dedicated 100% gluten-free facility.
“When we moved into our current world headquarters in 2007, we anticipated the space would meet our needs for 10 to 15 years,” said Bob Moore, founder, president and chief executive officer of Bob’s Red Mill Natural Foods. “But we’ve just been going like gangbusters, and already we need this additional space to meet the increasing worldwide customer demand.”
Bob’s Red Mill also announced seven promotions. They included Dennis Vaughn to senior vice-president of operations and chief operating officer; Robert Agnew to senior vice-president of sales; Bryan Emerson to vice-president of information technology and chief information officer; Matthew Cox to vice-president of marketing; Trey Winthrop to vice-president of finance; Phil Guettler to vice-president of sales; and Jan Chernus to vice-president of international sales.
